The night began with Buckcherry. The LA band started in 1999 opening for Lenny Kravitz (Freedom Tour). The tattooed Lead vocalist Josh Todd has done well for himself. He has found away to replace all of his band members and maintain a name, some hits and achieve a grammy nomination for “best hard rock performance”. That perseverance got them a great gig opening for KISS Alive 35 tour.

What a wicked show. That was a very enthusiastic concert from KISS. This is the last tour for KISS called the KISS Alive 35 Tour, representing their 35th anniversary (since the first worldwide tour). The oldest band member is Gene Simmons who was born in 1949, an age you would have never guessed behind that outfit. I had to wiki the info when I heard the lead singer, Paul Stanley, announce that Calgary was where KISS started their very first North American “Club” Tour in 1974. It was in Edmonton then Calgary the following day on February 6th, 1974 that they performed at SAIT of all places. Such a small venue was hard for me to imagine. I was one of more than 14,000 at the Saddledome. The group doesn’t skimp out on special effects either. Gene spitting fake blood and flying 40 feet up to perform on speakers and Paul flying over to a solo stage after the first on-core, booming pyrotechnics, tonnes of fog and confetti – they didn’t forget anything. Paul even busted his guitar in two with a big smash to the ground. Now that is a rock concert. All of the classics were played from their previous hits. Paul told us to “get our butts out to Walmart and buy the new album”. Sonic Boom is the 19th studio album and the first in 11 years from KISS released October 6, 2009. There are some great songs on Sonic Boom. I suggest getting your copy soon! Great show to “escape from reality” as the band so bluntly put it. Rock on KISS!
Check out the photos I took.
